Witty Ditties: a celebration of the comic song
Witty Ditties is a one man music and comedy show, devised by Greg Beedle. It has
been performed for charity at a number of venues in Somerset and beyond.
This is a light hearted and personal selection of funny pieces from past masters
including Ivor Novello, Jake Thackray, Victoria Wood, Richard Stilgoe, and
Lonnie Donegan among others.
Primarily a guitarist, Greg also has an enthusiastic if rudimentary go on the
piano for those songs that demand it. After seeing the show, a goddaughter of
Michael Flanders said how thrilled the great man would have been with it. He
would have relished knowing that people were still enjoying the works he created
with Donald Swann.
A ukulele may also sneak onto the stage for some cheeky George Formby songs.
This is a revival. Greg last performed this show several years ago. He says he
is cognisant of how society has changed recently, and devoutly hopes no one
takes offence. Joy and laughter is the aim.
He plans to include one or two newer tunes, such as by the great Tim Minchin.
There may even be an original composition in there as well.
